About Van Insurance
Van insurance allows the driving policy holder to drive a van up to 3.5tonnes, on any UK or EU member road. As with car insurance it is a legal requirement to have a van insurance policy that covers you to drive your van on the public roads. You will sometimes find Van insurance referred to as Commercial van insurance or Commercial vehicle insurance.

Van Types
Some vans are classified by drivers as small, medium or large. Below are some categories of the type of vans available on the market:
Small Van – Typically used to carry the lightest loads.
Light Van – Often referred to as a small box van and is usually on a similar chassis to its car related vehicle.
Medium Van – Sometimes classified as a Panel Van this will carry a larger load and may have side doors in addition to rear van doors.
Large Van – Vans with a larger carrying capacity with a double wheel based chassis.
Pick-up Van - Similar to the large van this is typically as an open load bay and or van tipper.
Van insurance Cover Types
Similar to car insurance van insurance is split into the same three different levels of policy type which are as follows - fully comprehensive van insurance, third party fire and theft van insurance and third party only van insurance.
Third Party Only Van Insurance – is the basic van insurance and covers damage to the third party persons as well as the third party property. This is usually the cheapest type of van insurance and has the lowest level of van insurance cover.
Third Party Fire and Theft Van Insurance – In addition to the third party van cover above this also covers fire damage to your van and theft of your van.
Fully Comprehensive Van Insurance – In addition to the third party fire and theft insurance outlined above this also covers damage to your van plus any injury to you should the incident be deemed your fault.
