What is Travel Insurance?
Travel insurance is a policy that covers you on your travels and will reimburse you for a hospital treatment and loss to you in terms of aspects such as lost luggage. Do I need it?
We insure our cars and homes so why not ourselves when we go on our travels? Often many foreign countries do not have a free health service like the UK which means you could be landed with a large bill should you require treatment. Travel policy can also cover you for the more inconvenient incidents such as holiday cancellation, flight problems, lost luggage etc…This will give you some peace of mind and save you a considerable amount of money should anything unfortunate happen.

What do I need to know?
When you purchase Travel Insurance, your insurer will usually issue documents such as:

• The Policy Document - sets out in full the terms and conditions of your policy
• The Policy Handbook - contains more details about your insurance

Read and make sure you understand your insurance policy document. If there are insurance terms you are not sure of then check the explanations in the Insurance Glossary

Where do you buy your insurance?
Don't buy insurance from travel agents without comparing costs with other travel insurance providers. Make sure you shop around and get at least five or six quotes to ensure you are getting competitive quotes. But don't just look at the price, check what is covered under the policy and check the policy details on hazardous activity, force majeure, war, medical issues, and personal liability.
